Day 4: Favorite Prince

DAY 4:  Favorite Prince

Prince Naveen! Why? He's the first prince with a personality! Okay, that's not very nice, but he's definitely one of the more outgoing princes. Probably matched only by Aladdin, but he's technically not a prince lol. And even though he's a bit of a lazy, over confident jerk in the beginning, he obviously shapes up and is even willing to go through life as a frog to be with the girl he loves (awwww). But it's a good thing he doesn't have too!

Credit goes to the incredible artist David Kawena for the picture above. Please visit his website to view more of his yummy Disney art and other outstanding creative work!

Tiana = incredibly lucky!

Honorable Mentions:
Prince Adam aka Beast (Beauty and the Beast)
Prince Eric (The Little Mermaid)
Prince Charming (Cinderella)
"The Prince" (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)

Day 3: Favorite Heroine

DAY 3:  Favorite Heroine

This one was pretty easy! Fa Mulan is easily one of the most heroic Disney characters to date, and one of the only non-Princesses in the Disney movie collection. She cuts her hair, masquerades as a man, joins the army, and pretty much kicks butt to save China. Also she get's Shang...

...mmm not bad for a clumsy 16 year-old runaway!

Honorable Mentions:
Megara (Hercules)
Tinkerbell (Peter Pan)
Elastigirl (The Incredibles)
EVE (WALL-E)

Day 2: Favorite Princess

More of the 30 Day Disney Challenge!

DAY 2: Favorite Princess

This was a tough one as well, but I stand by my choice lol. I can still remember watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs dozens of times when I was really really little. Nothing against the other princesses, but Snow White is just so classy and lovely. And her voice has that wonderful 1930s/40s quality to it, with a bit of a Monroe-esque sound to her speaking voice. She could probably be a little less naive though... i.e. not taking food from strangers!

Honorable Mentions:
Pocahontas (Pocahontas)
Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)
Belle (Beauty and the Beast)
Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

Day 1: Favorite Character

Nobody for sure knows the exact date when CP Applications will open, but based on previous years it should be a month (or less!) away. So what better way to pass the time than with the 30 Day Disney Challenge? Credit goes to Riley, since I gleaned this from her tumblr. I don't know if she made it up or not, but it's a nice find!

DAY 1: Favorite Character

Okay, this is probably partly due to having seen Toy Story 3, but Woody has to be one of the best Disney (Pixar) characters of all time.
Now Woody, he's been my pal for as long as I can remember. He's brave, like a cowboy should be. And kind, and smart. But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

Honorable Mentions:
Mickey Mouse (of course!)
Todd (Fox and the Hound)
Simba (Lion King)
Mulan (Mulan)

The Ending of a Saga (NO SPOILERS)

Since Toy Story 3 is so recent, and many people probably haven't gotten a chance to see it yet, I'll make sure there are NO SPOILERS in this post. So never fear!
Not that I would or could expect anything less from Pixar, but the movie was really really great. Woody, Buzz, and all the favorites are back with a huge host of new characters. The storyline is a little bit more intricate than in previous films, but even the backstories of various characters all ties in to a general theme. It was previewed a bit in Jessie's tale from Toy Story 2. And as can be guessed from the trailers, the theme revolves around what happens to a toy when it's owner grows too old to play with toys. But regardless, Pixar still manages to make the movie a fun adventure with lots of humor for adults and kids.

The Toy Story series seems like Pixar's pet project, since it's what put them on the map more or less and it's the only movie they've done sequels for (though I have heard rumors of a Cars 2). So I'm sure it wasn't easy to finally end Toy Story, and honestly, it wasn't easy for me either! Those my age have really been on Andy's timeline for all these years. Toy Story came out in 1996 when I was 5. And now, over 10 years later, I'm a college student. I won't lie, I got teary at the end of Toy Story 3, because it was all so bittersweet.

On a lighter note, the short before the movie was very different. Definitely a favorite (second only to the chess playing old man, such a classic!).

Taking fashion to infinity...

Well, you know the rest ; ). The Woody-inspired looks were fun, but since I went a little crazy I stuck to ONE look for Buzz :)

8 days until Toy Story 3!

Do you know Disney?

Can you name the Walt Disney Animated Classics? Find out!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Sporcle, it is the most addicting slash biggest time waster ever--more so than Bejeweled, though not quite up to Tetris. I love it haha

Other Disney-related challenges:
Can you name the Disney/Pixar movie from the songs listed below?
Can you name the Rides in Disney World?
Can you name the Top 25 Disney Songs?
Can you name the Disney Animated Movies by Tagline?

Where'd ya go?

What happened?
So I started this blog months ago and then had the nerve to leave right before auditions! Thanks to those who wished me luck but... I never went.

Sadly, I am not doing the College Program for Fall 2010 for quite a few reasons.

  • Housing: By the time I received my acceptance, my roommate and I had already decided to live together in the dorms again our sophomore year. And it took some finagling but we managed to get a room in the brand new dorms. If I did not take that room with her my place would be filled, which means I would have a hard time finding housing for the spring semester, and definitely wouldn't be able to room with a friend.
  • Major Transfer: I just recently transferred majors and while I'm not extremely behind, I need at least another semester of 18 credits to not only catch up, but be a bit ahead of others before I can take a semester off. I am also on a pre-law track, so it's very important that I graduate on time.
These were the two biggest issues, which is why I have decided... to apply for Spring of 2011!

I really love the thought of the College Program and choosing not to go for fall just broke my heart! And this spring seems like the best bet. I won't have to worry about housing, and I can use the fall semester to catch up on credits, even overload if I need to.

If I get accepted again I will hope to audition for a Character Performer role, so I'll be blogging about that for sure. Again, wish me luck!

Combating the Frosh 15

I will begin this post by stating that the Freshman 15 is nothing to joke about lol. Literally all of my friends have packed on some pounds since coming here--that is with the exception of my guy friends, which is just SO not fair. I gained weight for sure, not 15 pounds thankfully, but enough to make certain articles of clothing a little snugger than they used to be. Auditions are in just over 3 weeks, and I'd love to be close to my pre-college self by them. But we shall see!
The conditioning regime is going well, but I have been a little naughty... I have yet to really start stretching. Part of is probably because once I finish the main parts of my workout I am ready to leave the gym and shower--I absolutely hate that sweaty hot icky feeling. Another part is that I am not eager to truly see how much flexibility I've lost since coming here. Which is dumb, because the more I avoid stretching the more inflexible I get!

In the meantime I have a superfun PoliSci paper to write! Wish me luck ;)

Audition Preparation

Mission: Prepare for Character Performer Auditions

The CP audition dates are coming up fast! The earliest date is March 22 in Madison, WI. I, personally, will be attending the Chicago audition on March 26. It actually works out perfectly because I will be on Spring Break during that time (meaning a 45 minute drive from home versus a 3 hour drive from uni).

But that's so soon! March 26 is exactly a month away. That gives me just 4 weeks to get [back] into dance shape. This means a lot of cardio, a lot of stretching, and a lot of turns, jumps, and leaps. The latter will be fun, but the first two... not so much.

I am lucky that I have the wonderful ARC gym that is less than a 5 minute walk from my dorm. I've been going there on almost daily basis since last semester, but it's definitely time to kick it into a higher gear.

I'll also be reading up on other audition experiences from other blogs and this info will really come in handy. Is anyone else auditioning as well? And how do you plan to prepare?

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Oh hi!

Believe it or not (believe it I have proof lol), this is not my first Disney College Program blog post. Nope. But in light of recent news (!!!!) I decided to switch to blogger so I could follower my fellow CP-ers and CP hopefuls. Older blog posts can be read @ illini4princess.wordpress.

Just some quickie facts about yours truly...
+ I am a freshman college student currently attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (go Illini!)

+ My major is (or soon will be) English, Pre-law.
+ My favorite movie(s) are Sin City and any HP movie [the second favorite movie varies, Sin City is always a for sure]
+ My favorite Disney movie is Lion King, Pixar movie would be The Incredibles (seen it 18 times!)
+ As for everything else... coming soon! haha

And just because I haven't said... it's official that

I'VE BEEN ACCEPTED
*parties* *streamers* *dancing*
Yes, I've been accepted to the Disney College Program for Fall 2010. I've already posted a bit about my personal experience here but I'll probably go in-depth so someone somewhere can maybe be comforted by my experience.

But...

...the journey does not end here. Like so many other hopefuls I will be auditioning for a Character Performer role in March. So I'll definitely be using the next couple weeks to prepare for this mentally and physically (hurrah). Lots of stuff to look forward to!
